How we score supplement brands

The criteria, how the score out of 10 is computed and the real figures of the Supplements and Nutrition ranking.

An analysis, not a lab test

Our scores rest on an analysis of what brands publish (website, product pages, formulas, prices, delivery and return terms) and on the experiences their customers share in public reviews.

What we do not do

  • Call a product “tested” when we have not tried it.
  • Guess information a brand does not publish: missing data earns no points.
  • Write a score by hand: every score is computed by our code from the scale.
  • Apply a different rule from one brand to another.
  • Let a commission or a partnership influence a score.
  • Accept payment to appear in a ranking.

From analysis to score, in 5 steps

  1. 1Collection: the facts the brand publishes (website, product pages, terms, FAQ) and its Trustpilot rating, each with its source, exact quote and date.
  2. 2Scale: each rule that holds adds or removes its points.
  3. 3Criterion score: 7/10 to start, plus the points of the rules, between 5 and 9.5.
  4. 4Overall score: the mean of the 5 criteria, rounded to one decimal.
  5. 5Ranking: brands are sorted by overall score.

The scale, criterion by criterion

Each criterion starts at 7/10. Each rule that holds adds or removes its points, and the criterion score stays between 5 and 9.5. Data the brand does not publish earns no points.

Value for money

Prices and promotions, weighed against product quality and the prices of the other brands in the ranking.

RulePointsBrands concerned
Reference whey price per kg at most 85% of the ranking median+11 / 4
Reference whey price per kg at least 115% of the ranking median−11 / 4
Loyalty program+0.34 / 4
Why these rules
Reference whey price per kg at most 85% of the ranking median
Whey is the product almost every brand sells, so its price per kg compares prices for an equivalent product. A 15% gap from the median separates a clearly lower price from a mere difference in pack size.
Reference whey price per kg at least 115% of the ranking median
Mirror of the previous rule: 15% above the median, the price is clearly higher than the market.
Loyalty program
A loyalty program lowers the price paid over time.

Product range

The breadth of the range: categories covered, number of products, sizes and flavours available.

RulePointsBrands concerned
At least 100 products+12 / 4
40 to 99 products+0.50 / 4
Fewer than 15 products−0.50 / 4
At least 5 product families (protein, vitamins, omega-3, creatine...)+0.53 / 4
Vegan range+0.33 / 4
Why these rules
At least 100 products
A wide range lets you group your purchases with a single brand.
40 to 99 products
A mid-sized range covers most of an athlete's needs.
Fewer than 15 products
Below 15 products, the brand forces you to complete your order elsewhere.
At least 5 product families (protein, vitamins, omega-3, creatine...)
Covering at least five families signals a complete range, not a brand specialised in a single product.
Vegan range
A vegan range opens the brand to athletes who avoid animal-based products.

Quality

Published formulas and product information (ingredient sourcing, labels, lab tests), and customer feedback on the products.

RulePointsBrands concerned
Laboratory test results published+0.81 / 4
Country of manufacture stated explicitly+0.52 / 4
Anti-doping label or program (Informed Sport, Informed Choice, NSF Certified for Sport or equivalent)+0.52 / 4
Organic label on all or part of the range+0.32 / 4
Why these rules
Laboratory test results published
Publishing test results lets anyone check the composition and the absence of contaminants. A promise of testing without published results does not count.
Country of manufacture stated explicitly
A stated country of manufacture lets you check which production standards apply. "Designed in" or "developed in" a country is not enough.
Anti-doping label or program (Informed Sport, Informed Choice, NSF Certified for Sport or equivalent)
These labels certify that batches are checked for substances banned in sport.
Organic label on all or part of the range
The organic label certifies the agricultural origin of the ingredients concerned.

Delivery

Announced delivery times, costs and free-shipping threshold, and customer feedback on the deliveries they received.

RulePointsBrands concerned
Free shipping from $50 or less+0.51 / 4
Free shipping only above $80−0.50 / 4
Dispatch announced within 24 hours (or same day)+0.70 / 4
Dispatch announced within 48 hours+0.41 / 4
Pickup point delivery+0.31 / 4
Express delivery+0.23 / 4
Why these rules
Free shipping from $50 or less
A $50 threshold stays within reach of an ordinary order.
Free shipping only above $80
Above $80, free shipping requires a large order.
Dispatch announced within 24 hours (or same day)
Fast dispatch shortens the total delivery time.
Dispatch announced within 48 hours
Dispatch within 48 hours is in line with the market norm.
Pickup point delivery
A pickup point avoids waiting at home for the parcel.
Express delivery
Express delivery helps when a product runs out.

Customer service

Contact channels, return and refund terms, and customer feedback on their dealings with the brand.

RulePointsBrands concerned
Returns accepted for 30 days or more+0.52 / 4
Contact by phone+0.30 / 4
Contact by chat+0.31 / 4
Trustpilot rating of at least 4.5 from at least 500 reviews+0.82 / 4
Trustpilot rating below 3.5 from at least 50 reviews−10 / 4
Why these rules
Returns accepted for 30 days or more
Many consumer rules set a minimum return window of 14 days, so 30 days or more is a commitment from the brand.
Contact by phone
Talking directly solves a problem faster than a form.
Contact by chat
Chat gives a quick answer without waiting on the phone.
Trustpilot rating of at least 4.5 from at least 500 reviews
Beyond 500 reviews, the rating reflects the experience of a large number of customers.
Trustpilot rating below 3.5 from at least 50 reviews
A low rating on a sufficient number of reviews signals repeated problems. Below 50 reviews, it carries no weight.

Prices

To compare prices on an equivalent product, we record the public price of each brand's reference whey, without promo code, per kilo. The median of the ranking is $61.16/kg. Prices recorded on 23 October 2026.

Prices are shown in US dollars. Brands that sell in another currency are converted at the European Central Bank reference rate of 23 October 2026 (1 EUR = 1.1193 USD, 1 GBP = 1.33683 USD); the original price stays in the Price column.

Our checks and missing data

Every fact we keep comes with the address of the page it appears on and the exact quote. When two pages of a brand contradict each other, we keep its terms of sale. Information we cannot find stays missing and earns no points: we never estimate it.

44 facts recorded out of 70 expected, for 5 brands.

These brands publish little readable information, or their website blocks reading: their score rests on few facts and stays close to the starting score.

Updates

Facts recorded on 23 October 2026. Scale in force since 24 October 2026. An analysis is reviewed when a brand changes its terms, when an error is reported or when the scale changes: every score is then recomputed.

Our sources and the role of artificial intelligence

Our sources are the brands' public pages (website, product pages, terms of sale, FAQ) and their Trustpilot page. Artificial intelligence helps us analyse these pages and record the facts; every fact we keep retains its source and quote. Scores never go through artificial intelligence: our code computes them from the scale published on this page.

Independence and affiliate links

Some links to brands are affiliate links: we may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. No brand pays to appear in our rankings or to get a score, and no commission or promo code enters any rule of the scale.
